ROLE
Lead interaction designer / SAMSUNG

I was the lead interaction designer of the AT&T NumberSync service on Samsung Gear S2 and Galaxy Tab S2. This involved collaborating with designers of related apps such as Phone, Messaging, Settings, and Gear Manager to integrate the service to native applications across Gear S2 and connected mobile phones and tablets.

As Samsung was the first manufacturer to provide this service, my responsibilities also included interpreting AT&T’s service specification into concrete user interface (UX) workflows and screen layouts and making customizations while maintaining the core aspect of Gear S2’s design.

PROJECT SUMMARY
The AT&T NumberSync service is aimed at encouraging customers to adopt secondary devices such as smartwatches and tablets that allow them to have the seamless communication experiences they have with their mobile phones. Among the phone manufactures, including LG and Apple, Samsung is the major provider of this service and, as of December 2017, offers four compatible smartwatches and three compatible tablets.

PROCESS
I was involved in this service from the beginning of the service planning phase. As we drilled down into details, my main responsibilities were to create the interaction, screen layouts, and overall workflows involved in the NumberSync service.

Part of UI wireframes: NumberSync service registration process

Throughout the process, I worked closely with the software engineers from both AT&T and Samsung, along with AT&T’s UX team. We were able to achieve a seamless user experience from registering each device to AT&T’s NumberSync service and making and responding to calls to messages using only one telephone number on all connected devices.
